Post Katrina: Photos from the Reunion Project
I photographed the yearbook for the class of 2007 while teaching at New Orleans Charter Science and Mathematics High School after Hurricane Katrina. At the time, the school didn’t have the money to print it and students didn’t have the money to buy it. I’ve compiled the still unpublished yearbook, with wreckage photos, class work and photos from ride-alongs with the National Guard when martial law took over New Orleans. Environmental portraits of my students 10-years later are still to come. The storm sent my students on different trajectories. The late yearbook is a study of life’s lottery and the pathos of some of the children who came of age in a destroyed city; traced by their faces and the photos they made in my class.
